HCI202A Introduction to Build: Bootcamp

Course Introduction

​

This course introduces prototyping techniques through a combination of projects where students build and critique analog, digital and physical artifacts. Topics include paper prototyping, websites prototyping, mobile app prototyping and physical prototyping using Arduino controllers. Across all projects, students learn to build with a focus on accessibility and inclusiveness to deliver artifacts which are widely usable.

GAME210 Game Art Intensive

Course Introduction

​

This course introduces the theory and techniques for game art development. The course starts with focus on basic drawing techniques including Line, Shape and Color Theory. Afterward, it branches off in different digital techniques including Pixel Art, 2D/3D techniques for Character, Environment and Prop Design. Furthermore, we also introduce Procedural Art in Digital Tools including Adobe Photoshop, Blender and Procreate. Students learn to master these topics through a series of in-class activities, assignments and a final project.

GAME290A Social Topics in Contemporary Games Research

Course Introduction

​

This seminar style course explores the different strands of social issues in contemporary games research. Towards this, students will read, present and critically analyze papers from prominent research venues. Students work towards defining a research problem or a passion project of interest which they explore through various mediums including board-games, playable games, simulations, hardware artifacts (Arduino) or other gamified media. The course culminates in a high quality conference style paper which is potentially extendable to an actual external publication.
